Summer 2012 Paid Internship Program

for public high school students

 

June 18 – July 13, 2012

Monday – Friday, 10AM-3PM

 

Have you ever thought about a career in the arts? Or maybe you’re just looking for a fun way to earn some money over the summer while doing something that matters. Through these internships at Out of Site, you’ll develop real art skills, learn how you can use the arts to have a positive impact in the community, gain job experience and walk away with some cash in your pocket.

This summer we’re offering internships in four different art mediums. Click on the links below to see a full description and application for each internship:

There are twelve slots available in each internship. The program will take place at Out of Site Youth Arts Center at 29 Howth Street in San Francisco; but you will also spend a significant amount of time working off-site meeting professional artists and working in the community.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

1. You must be between the ages of 14 and 18 and attend public high school in San Francisco.
2. Ideal candidates are focused, community engaged and artistically inclined. YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL WORKDAYS.
3. All students are eligible to apply, but priority will be given to students who have previously participated in an Out of Site class or internship.

 

How to Apply:

To apply to this internship, you must submit a written application. Qualified candidates will then we contacted to come in for a group interview. Acceptance to this internship is based both on your written application and your interview. Applications are due to the Out of Site office no later than Friday, April 20, 2012 at 5PM.

Stipend:

As an intern, you will receive a $400 stipend after the completion of the internship as long as you have fulfilled all of the internship requirements, including attending all workdays. If you miss a workday, you will not receive a stipend.

Spring Break 2012 Paid Internship Program
For SF Public High School Students

3 Saturdays: March 10, 17 & 24 1pm-5pm
March 26-March 31 Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm

Architecture/Build: Build a Parklet in the Excelsior neighborhood

This paid internship will focus on learning design/build skills. Students will be constructing the final student design for a parklet in front of Mamá Arts Café at 4754 Mission Street in the Excelsior neighborhood. They will be working closely with an architect and will learn what it’s like to be an architect in the real world. Students will be using a variety of power tools and construction materials.

The Out of Site Spring Break Internship Program will run from March 26 – March 31. Monday through Saturday 10am-4pm with an additional 3 Saturday workdays (March 10, 17 & 24.) Classes will be located at Out of Site Youth Arts Center on the campus of Lick Wilmerding High School located next to Balboa Park BART/Muni as well as on site at Mamá Arts Café at 4754 Mission Street. You can apply to be in the Spring Break Program by filling out the attached form.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

1. You must be between the ages of 14 and 18 and attend public high school in San Francisco.
2. Ideal candidates are focused, community engaged and artistically inclined. YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL WORKDAYS.
3. Priority will be given to Out of Site students who have taken an Out of Site Architecture class.

 

How to Apply:

4. Pick up an application at our office 29 Howth St. or  DOWNLOAD a copy. Applications are due no later than 5pm Friday, February 24.
5. Qualified applicants will be contacted to come in for a group interview at 4pm on Friday, March 2nd. (Please make sure to be available at this time)
6. Final decision will be made Wednesday, March 7.

Note: We will accept 10 youth to participate in the Architecture/Build Internship. All students will be paid a $400 stipend on the last day of the internship as long as they fulfill all of the internship requirements including attending all workdays. If a workday is missed, no stipend will be given.
